‘Bonne Maman’ is the polite French term for ‘Grandmother’, and was the way the children of the house referred to their grandmother, the Marquise. This was the Marquise’s bedroom, and the antique furniture was originally hers. This room is in the original, 15th century wing of the chateau.
Its walls are lined in yellow silk in the French tradition, and it is furnished in the Belle Epoque style, with a superking size bed. There is a kettle to make tea in the silver teapot or to fill the hot water bottle provided. And a crystal decanter of sherry to enjoy whilst getting dressed for dinner.
The en suite bathroom has its original art deco cast iron bath and marble-topped wash stand, and a separate shower.
